ABOUT US

We are Mark and Liz Mierzejewski, and we live in the tiny Connecticut town of Terryville, named after the 19th century clock inventor, Eli Terry.  We are both science teachers. Mark teaches Physics, Earth Science and Astronomy at the high school level, and Liz teaches Earth Science and Life Science in the middle school.

We have three grown children and (so far) one delightful granddaughter.

While my children were growing up, I was fortunate enough to be able to stay home with them. During this time, I started a small business of creating 1:12 scale animals for doll house collectors under the name "Kingdom Critters." I sculpted over 100 different dog breeds, and my dog image library was considerable. It was during this time, in the mid-1990's, that I came across images and descriptions of the Shiloh Shepherd. For years, I thought back to this breed over and again, knowing that I wanted one of these amazing dogs in my life.

We lost our sweet mixed breed Torgo at the ripe, old age of 17, the children all moved out and we had the opportunity to bring a new member into the family. "Let's get one of those dogs you've been wanting for years," said Mark. Within moments I began my search.

With the help of a good friend, I finally decided on the beautiful litter of Kiana and Coz, out of High Caliber Shilohs. Even then, it was a roller-coaster wait to find out which of the pups we were going to take home. In March of 2013, we brought home little Corvus, Teal Boy of the litter and named him 'Tuco,' which means 'owl' in the Peruvian language of Quechua. The owl has always been related in popular culture to knowledge and wisdom. It is a resourceful animal, always playing the role of the elder of the tribe, or the teacher on children's cartoons and stories.

With our mutual love of Astronomy and excellence, the name Stellar Shiloh Shepherds seemed perfect for our kennel.
